How to plan a special lockdown celebration.

Social restrictions are hard. They are getting so tiring. We're missing our friends and family more and more each day. The effort to pretend that things are 'ok' is getting greater and greater and our energy and motivation is slowly running out.

However - over the past six months here at Party Queens HQ we've learnt a fair few things about making the most out of a bad situation. We've been supporting customers over the past few months making those 'at home' celebrations super special and we thought we'd share some of our top tips, ideas and suggestions with you:

  1. Plan Ahead! The sooner you start planning for a special occasion the more likely it is to be stress free and lots of fun. Sketch out a schedule for the day and make sure your day is filled with special moments. If you can, take the day off - you deserve it after the year we've had! Start with a special birthday breakfast, then perhaps a long soak in the bath or a nice walk outside. Set a time for opening presents - play some of your favourite music at the same time. Then see our following tips for adding some extra fun activities to your day!

  2. Pick a theme - if you set a theme it can make it easier to plan everything you need for the day from activities to decorations to food. Some popular choices we've seen over lockdown have included Candy Land, Queen for the Day, Black Tie, Rainbows and Gaming.

  3. Organise a Zoom Party (or another platform of your choice!) - get together online with friends and family. They will be missing you to and will love having a catch up and sending you lots of love - perhaps they can even join in with some birthday games or singing happy birthday.

  4. Decorate - Nothing marks a special event like decorations - think big - balloons, banners, streamers. Make it personal - add ages and names so the person of the day knows its all about them. If this isn't your usual groove or you don't know where to start why not get in touch with us at Party Queens HQ for some advice and support.

  5. Music - a party isn't a party without music - spend some time creating a special playlist with all your favourite tunes - make a dance floor in the kitchen and let yourself go!

  6. Get dressed to impress - Its so easy to spend all our time in our comfies during lockdown - make this a special day and get dressed up. Whether that's putting your best glad rags on or having a fancy dress competition - make the effort - we promise it will make you feel great.

  7. Cook a special meal (or order your favourite takeaway!) - whether slaving away in the kitchen is your groove or picking up the phone to your favourite take away, make it different. Set the table - get your best crockery and glassware out, put on a table cloth, add a menu, some flowers and candles. It really makes a difference. We have loads of equipment to hire at Party Queens HQ so get in touch if you need anything to make it extra special.

  8. Cocktails & Mocktails - why not mark the special persons day by making their favourite cocktail. Or you can even crank up the fun by creating a special cocktail just for the event (remember not to do too much tasting along the way - hiccup!).

  9. Plan some activities - There are loads to choose from - traditional party games, quizzes, board games, karaoke night, escape rooms, treasure hunts, bingo - the list is endless. If you can, make it extra fun by tying it in with your theme.

  10. CAKE - if a time ever called for cake its now! If your baking your own why not contact Party Queens to order a special personalised cake topper to make it extra special. Or if baking is not your thing or your looking for something to make jaws drop why not visit The Richens Cake Kitchen on Facebook (or contact Emily via Party Queens) who can design the perfect cake for your special day.

We know its hard right now but we promise its worth the effort. And if your energy is just drained and you don't have the energy then call in the Party Queens at or on Facebook @partyqueenssw and we'll help you every step of the way.
